English Premier League – the most Professional League

Till now I remember those days when I used to rush to my home after the school, to have a glance of the Italian Football League. The League at that time had the presence of Maradona, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkard, Roberto Donadoni, Roberto Baggio along with several other internationally acclaimed players. Simply speaking, we used to go through sleepless nights to watch the Italian League, with rapt attention. But no more! Since the center stage has been occupied by the English Premier League, that within almost two decades has taken the world by storm. It is known as the Barclays Premier League, in official terms, for the reason of sponsorship and is regarded as the best professional league for football clubs in the global spectrum.

The entire saga of this innovative competition had started on 20 February 1992 but the first game happened on the next 15 August. It was then called as the FA Premier league and from the very beginning attracted the spectators for its inherent philosophy of toughness and speed. However, it must be said that England has an ancient history of Football League. From the year 1888 there has been the primary football competition of England and Wales and without a break. The euphoria created by the Premier League has increased both the dignity and infrastructure of the English Football exponentially. This has also lured the topnotch corporate giants to invest in this sport, since there is always a high expectation of good return. The best evident of profit can be identified from the statistics of the year 2005-06 when the combined club revenue was found almost $1.4 billion. The following year of 2007-08 witnessed an increase. There is also a probability that 2008-09 will surpass the amount of the earlier two years.

Besides the presence of Arsenals, Blackburn rovers, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Leeds and several others have glorified the scenario. During the high caliber matches thousands of spectators and staunch supporters, if not more, are witnessed to fill up the stadiums. Even the sports channels do not miss the occasion and live telecast the matches world over!
